CEP – Cultural Exchange Program for the Performing Arts between Denmark and the US Virgin Islands with collaboration from the US Virgin Islands Department of Tourism proudly present:

Malcolm Evans, “The Voice of The Virgin Islands”. Malcolm is born on the lovely “big” island of St. Croix. His deep and melodic voice has warmed and dazzled audiences throughout the Caribbean, Canada, and United States including two presidents. His recordings are numerous. This is Malcolm’s first visit to Europe. However, the Danes have enjoyed his voice on a CD from 2003. It features various songs from a Christmas TV-show that ran in Denmark and Virgin Islands during the month of December 2003 and 2004. The TV-series is called Nissernes O, and Malcolm co-wrote the music and lyrics and was the lead singer for the Pixies’ Song. Malcolm is a distant cousin of Victor Cornelius who was born in Frederiksted, St. Croix. Cornelius went to Denmark as a very young boy and ended up as the famous, school teacher and principal in Nakskov, Denmark. He was the founder of the White Choir (nurses in their white uniforms), and several other choirs and accordion bands.

Malcolm is accompanied on keyboards by Helge Jeppesen, Jr. Helge is born on St. Thomas and has Danish roots. His father was the founder of the famous orchestra, Jeppesen Band of Renown. For more than 35 years, Helge was the organist at Frederick Lutheran Church and at Reformed Lutheran Church in Charlotte Amalie. Nowadays, Helge is the organist at Lord God of Sabaoth Lutheran Church in Christiansted, St. Croix. This church operated under the Copenhagen Diocese until the transfer in 1917. In addition, Helge is the music director for Ebanezer Methodist Church as well as choir master for many other churches in the Virgin Islands. For 17 years, Helge was a music teacher at the Department of Education.

The third power in the group is the steel pan player Bruce “Calvin” Whyte. Calvin’s dynamic interpretation of this typical Caribbean instrument -invented after World War II on the island of Trinidad using 55-gallon oil drums left behind by American soldiers - will make your body shiver and give you warm and fuzzy feelings. “Calvin” was born on the island of Antigua and migrated to St. Croix in 1979. He is an accomplished steel pan music instructor and arranger. “Calvin” is the supervisor/instructor of the steel band music program for Department of Human Services for more than 15 years, and has taught steel band music at various schools on St. Croix.
